Why Beat Getting On?
Beat Getting On is created with a theme focus on How to Age with Attitude: Mental, Physical, and Social Ways to Unapologetically Complete the Cradle to Grave Journey with Well-Timed Flair (WTF), a joyful, witty, and downright helpful guide to navigating the golden years with grit, grace, and a whole lot of laughter.
The idea originated from Mandy and her sister, Tanya, who continuously discuss with their parents the aging journey through its labyrinth of mirrors, twists, turns, challenges, and breakthroughs. All four love travel, but even more, love chatting (wine and G&Ts are compulsory), always asking lots and lots and lots of questions (ouch … was that a slap?), especially about how to age with attitude and Beat Getting On, hence the title.
Judy Court (89), their mother, has written three books about her family, which originated in England, and in particular, their travels and experiences living in multiple African countries. Michael Court (91), their father, began working in Africa in 1958, designing and implementing railway systems, and also headed up operations in various African countries for a global oil and petroleum corporation.
With refreshingly honest mental, physical, and social insights, Beat Getting On is a cheeky, charming, and heartfelt celebration of what it means to grow older without growing dull. It must blend humor with helpfulness, encouraging visitors to embrace aging as a series of opportunities, not obstacles.
What makes Beat Getting On different, we sincerely hope, is its unflinching honesty. It won’t shy away from the realities of aging, aches, losses, forgetfulness, or adjusting to a world that feels increasingly digital and dizzying. Rather than dwell on what’s slipping away, it shines a light on what still lies ahead. The message? It’s never too late to laugh, grow, flirt, dance, love, forgive, simplify, or try something entirely new.
Starting key themes, and they will surely grow, are:
- Health & Wellness
- Memory & Mental Health
- Technology & the Elderly
- Relationships & Social Life
- Finance & Retirement
- Home & Lifestyle
- Travel & Leisure
- Life, Lessons & Reflections

The target audience is us older folks, to whom the overall theme of Beat Getting On caters in tone, color, and imagery. Visitors are encouraged to add comments of their own on any related subject in the blogging section, as well as register by email to receive a gift as a thank you.
Finally, Beat Getting On must convey a sense of fun and hope, always with a touch of humor … and a lot of sass. So, please, blog away!
